Torah Lectures
Capturing or purchasing Torah lectures on tape or CD can be a great way to listen to them when at home or elsewhere; some have even converted them to MP3 files so you can take them just about anywhere with you.
Of course having Torah lectures on tape or CD won't help you if you don't take the time to listen to them. This can be difficult as many people are very busy just working and taking care of the family, and they often forget about listening to those Torah lectures when they do have the time. You rush out the front door and forget to take your CD or get distracted with other hobbies when you do have a few moments at night. This means those Torah lectures get ignored day after day, even for those with the best of intentions.
So how can you set aside the time needed to listen and really absorb those Torah lectures? How do others work them into their schedule when they're just as busy as you? Here are some quick tips and considerations in this regard.
Choose a Time
One sure way to miss out on those Torah lectures is to tell yourself that you'll listen to them when you "get around to them." That time never seems to come and they never get an audience. To combat this problem, make an appointment and choose a time to listen to your Torah lectures. This might be a few minutes every day during your lunch break or an hour or two every week at a set time.
When you make an appointment after choosing a time, you'll be more likely to work those Torah lectures into your schedule and won't overlook them. Stick to this appointment or set time as you would anything else; don't let minor conflicts interrupt this or allow you to forego listening to these Torah lectures. Think of it as any other appointment, like a doctor's appointment or time when you must go to work. If you see it as something that's nonnegotiable, you'll be less likely to overlook this time.
Take Them With You
If you want to listen to your Torah lectures in the car or when on the road, you may neglect doing this because you don't take them with you. To combat this problem, store your CDs and CD player or MP3 player with the same items you need to take with you such as your purse or keys. If your Torah lectures are at your fingertips when you leave every day, you'll be more likely to take them with you when you walk out the door.
By keeping them on hand, those Torah lectures you have on CD or in an MP3 file will be used and appreciated more often. Don't stash them in a drawer and make sure you walk out with them as you do everything else you need, and you'll listen to them regularly.
